Mulberry 200g

Also called Shahtoot, our large and juicy mulberry has a good balance of sweetness and tartness, and is irresistible. Who does not remember eating this refreshingly succulent and delicate fruit when we were young? Fingers and lips stained purple because we couldn't stop eating them. A favourite with all.

And while we remember mulberry having a short season of a few weeks, we have a type of mulberry that fruits year round in the growing conditions of our farm. You can eat mulberry grown by us at any time of the year.

And if we're really honest, mulberry is the best tasting when compared to strawberries, raspberries and blackberries. And they grow with little care in our backyard.

Eat raw or you can even cook with them. I like them in pies, smoothies, cereal topping, jam and jelly, squashes, sorbets or ice creams, syrups and I have found them to be great when used for a sauce. A touch of sugar, lemon juice and or zest seems to bring out the full flavour of mulberry.

Mulberry has been used as a traditional medicine in Ayurveda for a long time. But who eats berries because we worry about our health? We eat them because they taste good.
